Planning - Synopsis

Under Pressure

David Bowie and Queen

Bah bah bah bah bah bah bah bah
Bah bah bah bah bah bah
Pressure pressing down on me
Under pressure
That burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets

Bah bah bah bah bah bah
Bah bah bah bah bah bah

That's o-kay!
It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming let me out
Pray tomorrow takes me higher
Pressure on people

Do do do bah bah bah bah
O-kay
Chippin around
Kick my brains around the floor
These are the days
It never rains it pours
People on streets
People on streets

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming let me out
Pray tomorrow takes me higher
People people on streets
Turned away from it all
Like a blind man
Sat on fence but it don't work
Keep coming up with love
But it's so slashed and torn
Why why why?
Love love love love

Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can't we give love one more chance?
Why can't we give love give love give love?
Give love give love give love give love give love
Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care
For people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way
Of caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves under pressure
Under pressure pressure

Synopsis

Under pressure is a remaking of the 1980s song written by Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, and relates to teenage personal relationships, and the realisation that being yourself is what is important.
My music video will be nostalgic of the 80s, with the costumes being 80s rock inspired, and the settings neon lighting based. I want my video to showcase all the popular elements of the 80s aesthetic that have recently become popular again with the youth group. It will showcase urban vs rural settings, so that it will appeal to a wider audience from a variety of different regions. The narrative begins with a male and female figure walking towards the camera, with heavy focus boot on their Dr Marten boots. The retro clothing is a visual reference to a past era where social media is irrelevant, and personal relationships are more important. The story shows both protagonists relationship development, and showcases positive memories from their lives, such as going to edgy locations in London, with the narrative following them as they go shopping and getting dinner in a restaurant. The narrative shows them coming home and feeling the pressure of criticism, that ultimately sees them walking separate ways. This drives the male character crazy, while the female character remains calm/sad and reflects over the time they shared in a photo book. After thinking over things, the male character decides to go back to 'the love of his life' and try to fix things. We see him run to the home of his 'love' and knock on her door. When she opens the door they share eye contact and smile, which is the reuniting of the couple and the return to equilibrium.

Some of the features of my music video will be inspired by cyberpunk photography.

Bright and vibrant lighting has become especially popular among the youth group, especially in terms of getting social media worthy photos. My music video will not feature the modern day obsessions over social media and technology, instead we will see a more naturalistic relationship, unpoisoned by social media. It will show more old fashioned forms of cameras, if any are featured. The song Under Pressure will link directly to the narrative of my video, with the couple being put under pressure to change themselves to be 'normal' however they come to accept that people will not always understand them, and they accept themselves. They are put under pressure to change, however their spirit keeps them strong. The music video will represent the people in society who are seen as different to everyone else, and is aimed at these audiences and will hopefully make them accept themselves for who they are. They are potentially vulnerable people, so I want them to feel as comfortable and emotionally attached to the characters on screen as possible. My music video will stick to the traditional teen music video conventions with the theme being love within it. These sort of narratives are popular especially among teen girls, as at this point in their lives, teen crushes are a real problem and relationships seem like a big deal. It will be a narrative music video rather than a performance one.
