Planning - Casting document
Name - Robin
Age - 30
For the male actor, I wanted to have a man that looks tough and stands out from the normal crowd of society. I wanted this as this music video is aimed at the outsiders of society, and I wanted an actor they would be able to relate to on a personal level. The importance of him looking tough is to show that as seen towards the end of the video, scrutiny can hit even the toughest person in a hard way, with them struggling to feel comfortable in their own skin. It is symbolic that whether you look tough or 'weak' we all feel emotions in the same way, and we all can break under scrutiny. This aims to send the message that no matter how you look, we all feel pain, and people should therefore reflect on how we speak to people and judge them. As well as this, I chose this male actor as he looks like he may be into the alternative rock style that I was going for. Stereotypically teens are into punk rock style music, and I wanted to show that no matter what age you are, we can all relate to being a teen and listening to angsty punk rock music, and this is something that stays with you throughout your life, not just for a short few years. This also relates to the theme of the video being the two characters dressed as if they are in the 80s, which symbolises that we all want to stay in our teenage years, as they may be the best years of our life, but this time in our lives comes with great confusion, stress and plenty of scrutiny, as it is when you find your style and your personality.
Name - Katie
Age - 25
For my female actor, I wanted her to look like the average woman that you see while out and about on a daily basis. I wanted her to be a person that anyone can relate to, and I wanted her to look extremely natural, to show that we are all naturally beautiful. I wanted her outfits to be what stand out, and to show that any average person can have a different identity. The importance of using her as an actor was that I wanted to show now more than ever we are seeing people who embrace who they truly are and dress in different ways to what used to be portrayed as 'normal'. As well as this, I wanted to show even further that there is still some scrutiny, and age is no barrier to this.
The importance of the ages of these actors is that scrutiny remains, and never gets easier, however we grow and learn to filter out the scrutiny and feel proud for who we are and what we look like.
